The Runic alphabet (also referred to as "Futhark") spread with the Viking settlers throughout the North Sea, however with the advent of Christianity, runes became obsolete. There was several different alphabets, some had only 16 letters, others up to 33 letters. The alphabet used for these designs is actually a mixture of the different Runic alphabets to achieve the closest proximity to the current Roman alphabet.
Most Runes had a name and a meaning, so as well as spelling words, inscriptions could have hidden meanings. The connection between runes and folk-lore was so strong that they were even thought to have had sacred and protective powers as well. Our range covers the whole Runic alphabet.
We also include in the Runic collection a compilation pendant symbolising 'Joy & Peace, Prosperity and Long life'.
